Exterior Painting

Roughly spring through early fall. What actually matters is surface temperature and moisture rather than the calendar — most exterior coatings want the surface above about 50°F and falling no lower overnight while they cure, and they want a dry surface going on. That rules out much of the winter up here and makes late fall a gamble against the first cold snap. Humidity in midsummer mostly affects how fast we can recoat, not whether we can work.

We wash every exterior before we paint it, but not always at high pressure. Aggressive pressure washing drives water behind siding and can tear up soft wood, so on older or delicate surfaces we use lower pressure and a cleaning solution and let it do the work. Either way the surface has to dry fully before anything is applied — that is usually a day in the schedule, not an hour.

On properly prepared, sound siding, most homeowners here get somewhere around seven to ten years before it needs doing again — but that is an average across a whole house, not a guarantee for every wall. The elevation facing the most sun and weather will always go first, sometimes years ahead of the rest, and the honest answer is that the prep and the exposure matter far more than the brand of paint.

Yes, and we would rather say so at the walkthrough than halfway through. We are set up for standard one and two-story homes. Very tall, steep or awkward-access work is not our strength and we will point you to someone who does it full time rather than take it on and do it slowly.
